Annotation of the doctoral dissertation

The aim. Investigation of the petrographic signatures of the Palaeozoic sedimentary rocks of the western margin of the East European Platform showing significant remagnetization and establishment of the geological factors of the diagenetic events dated by palaeomagnetic techniques
Study object. Palaeozoic sedimentary rocks of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Ukraine (and possibly adjacent areas).
Methods
• optic microscope
• scanning electron microscope (SEM) combined with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS)
• X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD)
• cathodoluminescence (CL) detector
• thermal demagnetization to identify magnetic minerals
• If possible carbon and oxygen isotopes
Tasks:
• Petrographic study of samples, which have been investigated by paleomagnetic methods (Dr. V. Katinas collection)
• Collect outcrop samples of the study region and Lithuanian deep inclined wells and carry out petrographic studies in association with paleomagnetic measurements
• Restore diagenetic evolution and identify mechanisms accounted for post-deposition transformations
• Correlate identified diagenetic / palaeomagnetic events with geological evolution of the western margin of the East European Platform
