Nature Research Centre's researchers Prof. habil. Dr Jonas Rimantas Stonis, Dr Arūnas Diškus and Dr Andrius Remeikis with colleagues from Russia and U.S. determined the smallest moths in the world

A recently published scientific article presents the smallest moths in the world and describes the complexity of such determination. The article's authors – Nature Research Centre's researchers Prof. habil. Dr Jonas Rimantas Stonis, Dr  Andrius Remeikis and Dr Arūnas Diškus together with researchers from U.S. and other countries – measured about 2800 individuals belonging to 650 smallest moth species and generalised abundant data of measurements published by many other authors. Two families, Gracillariidae and Nepticulidae, were found to be distinguished by a particularly small size. The smallest moths' forewind length was found to be merely ca. 1.2–1.3 mm, and wingspan ca. 2.6–2.8 mm.
