Dr Romualda Petkevičiūtė and Dr Virmantas Stunžėnas, researchers of P. B. Šivickis Laboratory of Parasitology, were recognised by foreign colleagues for their contribution to trematode taxonomy and their names were given to newly described species of Phyllodistomum genus.

 

A new article "Integrative taxonomy reveals an even greater diversity within the speciose genus Phyllodistomum (Platyhelminthes : Trematoda : Gorgoderidae), parasitic in the urinary bladder of Middle American freshwater fishes, with descriptions of five new species" was published in a Q1 journal Invertebrate Systematics 35(7) 754-775, https://doi.org/10.1071/IS21007.

 

"Species Phyllodistomum romualdae, sp. nov. is named after Romualda Petkevičiūtė, Institute of Ecology, Nature Research Centre, Lithuania, for her contribution to the advancement of trematode taxonomy and valuable work on the genus Phyllodistomum."

 

"Species Phyllodistomum virmantasi, sp. nov. is named after Virmantas Stunžėnas, Institute of Ecology, Nature Research Centre, Lithuania, for his contributions to trematode taxonomy, particularly those of the genus Phyllodistomum."
