Framework for Organizational Decision-Making Process in Water Reuse for Smart Cities (SMART-Water Domain)
Projects leader: Prof. Dr. Kensuke Fukushi, Dr. Serena Caucci , dr. Nijolė Kazlauskienė
Terms of the project: 2020–2023
Project Coordinator: Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability United Nations University (UNU-IAS); Institute for Integrated Management of Material Fluxes and of Resources United Nations University (UNU-FLORES)
SMART-Water Domain is a consortium of the United Nations University Institute for Integrated Management of Material Fluxes and of Resources(UNU-FLORES, Germany), the Dresden University of Technology (TUD, Germany), the Global Change Research Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences (CzechGlobe, the Czech Republic), the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS, Japan), Nature Research Centre (Lithuania), the Institute of Forest Ecology of the Slovak Academy Sciences (IFE SAS, Slovakia), the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences (UPWr, Poland), Environmental Institute, s.r.o. (EI, Slovakia).
The goal of the project "SMART-WaterDomain" is to develop a decision-making tool for digital accounting of wastewater re-use that would enable “crediting” the companies and utilities that substitute freshwater for treated wastewater. This tool meets the European and global environmental protection interests associated with water availability and wastewater in natural environment. The data obtained from the project will promote the development of a long-term plan envisaging enhanced re-use of water and the ecologically sustainable management of water resources. By means of multi-partner cooperation in the field of smart water management, the project "SMART-WaterDomain will help address the water re-use challenge and will contribute to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
