Institute, laboratory Institute of geology and geography

Scientific Supervisor habil. dr. Saulius Šliaupa

Consultant Supervisor Dr. Nicolaas Molenaar

Study period: 2016-10-01 – 2021-09-30

Research theme: Deposition and diagenesis of the continental Perloja Formation of the Upper Rotliegend

Short annotation (the aim, objectives)

The Aim: To determine province & sedimentary rock relations while layering the upper Rotliegend sediments. Indicate diagenetic changes.

Objectives:

• Petrographic studies of Perloja formation rock samples;

• Collect samples from deep wells, carry out paleomagnetic dating on Perloja formation rocks;

• Reconstruct investigated rock diagentic history and identify reasons which have led to substantial post-sedimentary changes in rock;

• Link Perloja formation rocks with eroded rocks (crystalline basement and other older sedimentary cover);

Methods: Macroscopic Description of rock; Optical microscopy (minerals and their mutual relationship identification); SEM-EDS (Minerals and their correlation identification); Geochemical Analysis (rocks and minerals); CL (carbonate minerals identification); demagnetization (minerals "magnetic carriers" identification)
