Laboratory of Genetics


The main research trend is focused on the studies of molecular-physiological properties of biocidic systems and investigation of their mechanisms of the action.

Fundamental research goals include molecular mechanisms of the action of killer toxins; formation of cellular resistance to viruses and other pathogens; cellular stress response pathways; investigation of yeast functional genomics; aspects of functioning, interaction and adaptation of biological systems.

Practical research areas are concentrated on the search of yeast killer strains in natural and industrial fruit-berry wine populations; analysis of microorganisms possessing a wide spectrum of biocidical properties and utilisation of them for the control of phytopatogene species and pathogenes of animals and humans. We pursue the assesment of efficiency of preservation agences implemented in food and water manufactering, perform the search and analysis of antiviral compounds using yeast killer systems.
