Laboratory of Bedrock Geology
Head: dr. GRAŽINA SKRIDLAITĖ
The main research strengths of this laboratory are bedrock geology and crustal processes, their influence on natural processes at the surface, local energy resources and the quality of the living environment.
The research objects are the chemical composition of pre-Cambrian rocks, their formation conditions, age and evolution and the impact of crustal structures on the sedimentary cover and formation of valuable mineral deposits. Research work includes investigations of Palaeozoic and Mesozoic rocks by palaeontological, lithological and palaeomagnetic methods, reconstructions of sedimentary environments, modelling of the evolution of basins and evaluation of its influence on surface forms and motions, plus the establishment of geothermal energy and oil deposit formation patterns, forecasting of mineral resources, their transformations and environmental impacts, an investigation of the history of geological sciences and other investigations of applied geology.
