Laboratory of Climate and Water Research

Head: assoc. prof. dr. JULIUS TAMINSKAS

The main research strengths of this laboratory are the evaluation and prediction of climate, groundwater and surface water resources and quality.

The research objects are the specific features of Lithuanian climate and its changes in the timeframe of instrumental observations. Research work includes investigations of the impact of climate change on the water budget, formation of wetlands, gypsum denudation and the stability of water ecosystems, regular hydrological and hydrochemical observations in the karst region and wetlands, monitoring and prediction of groundwater resources and quality, investigation of hydrogeochemical processes in the aeration and saturation zones, formation patterns of groundwater resources and chemical composition under natural and anthropogenically-impacted conditions, evaluation of groundwater resources and optimization of its exploitation, and investigation of the possibilities of groundwater protection and quality improvement.
