37th International Biology Olympiad 2026 in Vilnius

From July 12 to 19, Vilnius hosted the International Biology Olimpiad (IBO), the world‘s largest biology competition, bringing together the most talented high school students from around the globe. During this exciting event, young talents from 78 countries have gathered in Lithuania to compete by tackling challenging practical and theoretical biology tasks.

We are proud that researchers from the State Scientific Research Institute Nature Research Centre also had the opportunity to contribute to this remarkable event. Senior Researcher Rasa Bernotienė of the Laboratory of Entomology, together with researchers Kristina Valavičiūtė-Pocienė and Margarita Kazak from the same laboratory, contributed to the development and quality assurance of the practical examinations for the event. Meanwhile, Neringa Kitrytė, a researcher from the Laboratory of Mammalian Ecology, joined the academic team responsible for developing and ensuring the quality of the IBO‘s theoretical examinations.
