Advancing Archaeoentomology: Methodological Developments and European Perspectives

At the annual conference of the European Association of Archaeologists, on September 2-6, online, Nick Schafstall co-hosted a session on the development of methodologies in archaeoentomology. The session consisted of presentations by funerary entomologists and environmental archaeologists. An important merit in the session was the participation of David Smith from Birmingham University, who has more than 25 years of experience with commercial consultancy on insect remains from archaeological excavations. A comprehensive overview was given of the development of methodologies in the UK, and a plea was given to test these methods in other parts of Europe and develop them further. Hopefully, our Discussion session will result in a publication to distribute to a wider audience.
