BALTICA journal ranked in the second quartile (Q2) by Clarivate Analytics

BALTICA, an international geosciences journal published by the State Scientific Research Institute Nature Research Centre, has made a significant leap in quality – according to the 2025 assessment by Clarivate Analytics (in the category of journals of geology sciences), the journal has risen to the second quartile (Q2) and its Impact Factor has risen to 1.1. This is a significant achievement, which reflects the results of consistent editorial and scientific efforts and the journal’s strengthening position in the international scientific community.

It is important to note that as recently as in 2024 the journal was ranked in the fourth quartile (Q4) with an Impact Factor of 0.6, so the leap achieved in just one year signifies a rapid qualitative growth of the journal and its strengthening position within the international geosciences community.

According to Prof. Dr. Albertas Bitinas, Editor-in-Chief of BALTICA, this growth was driven by a focused effort to improve the quality of publications, a rigorous peer-review system and increasing participation by international authors, which enabled the journal to establish itself among increasingly prominent publications in geosciences and to attract research of high scientific value.

“This achievement by BALTICA is a clear proof that consistent efforts to enhance scientific quality and internationalization yield tangible results. This is a significant increase in international visibility not only for the journal but also for the entire Nature Research Centre,” says Prof. Dr. Edita Sužiedelienė, Director of Nature Research Centre.

This achievement lays the groundwork for the journal’s further development. It is expected to attract greater interest from international authors, generate a growing flow of high-quality publications and lead to even more active engagement by Lithuanian researchers in the international academic community.

BALTICA is an international peer-reviewed journal of geosciences published by Nature Research Centre. Its purpose is to publish high-quality research in geology, geophysics and related fields and to disseminate such research within the international academic community.
