Conference “Joint Parasitology Spring Meeting 2025”

On March 11-14, 2025, the conference “Joint Parasitology Spring Meeting 2025” organized by the parasitological societies of Great Britain, Germany and Switzerland was held in Würzburg, Germany.

During the conference, the latest research in the field of parasitology was presented. During the plenary session, the audience had the opportunity to get acquainted with the neurological effects of parasites on the host. During the conference, both oral and poster presentations were presented during various sections: parasite ecology, veterinary parasitology, molecular and immunological studies of parasites, etc. In the session on endangered parasites, scientists had the opportunity to get acquainted with endangered parasite species, observed trends in species diversity, and discuss the importance and benefits of parasite conservation.

During the poster session, Agnė Baranauskaitė, a doctoral student at the Laboratory of Genetics, also presented her research. The topic of the presentation was “Long-Term Study on Identifying Sarcocystis Species in Environmental Samples from Lithuania” (Agnė Baranauskaitė, Petras Prakas, Elena Servienė, Živilė Strazdaitė-Žielienė). The poster presents the results obtained in a three-year study of natural samples collected from Lithuanian livestock farms. During the work, eight species infecting domestic animals were detected, of which one is zoonotic – S. hominis (21%).
