Contribution of Nature Research Centre to the European Paleoecological Data Pooling Project

On 2-4 July, Vaida Šeirienė and Nick Schafstall, researchers from NRC Laboratory of Quaternary Research, participated in the workshop of the COST Action: CA23116, Open Palaeoecological data – analysing the past building foresight. This project aims to bring together dispersed local and/or national palaeoecological data in a single open database. This will allow continent-wide analysis of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems and a better understanding of how ecosystems respond to climate and land use change.
Researchers participated in the NEOTOMA – paleoecological database trainings. Dr Nick Schafstall was involved in the insect and plant macrofossil groups and became a steward of the insect database. He also participated in the initial meeting of the outreach working group to inform interested parties and the general public about ongoing scientific activities. Meetings with the insect database team from Umea University were held to discuss cooperation in research and manuscript preparation. Dr Vaida Šeirienė participated in the meetings of the diatom and chironomid study group and was involved in their activities.
With 125 scientists from 28 countries attending, it was a great opportunity to get to know representatives from other countries and discuss what joint activities and projects could be initiated in the future.
