Invitation to the 22nd Science Festival “Erdvėlaivis Žemė” at Nature Research Centre

On September 11-19, Nature Research Centre will host the traditional 22nd Science Festival “Erdvėlaivis Žemė” (“Spaceship Earth”), attracting thousands of visitors from all over Lithuania every year.

This year, the following exciting activities and presentations will be made available to visitors:

🔬 Microorganism Fair: a closer look at the world around us

You will learn about the diversity of microorganisms: from beneficial microorganisms decomposing materials or strengthening concrete to those that spoil food or cause diseases. You will see the signs of plant diseases and their causes, learn about the latest control methods and the use of microorganisms for plant protection. You will learn about antimicrobial substances, their diversity and use in improving the quality of human life, the application of microorganisms in the degradation of plastic waste or the synthesis of nanoparticles. This is an opportunity to look into the micro-world that cannot be seen with the naked eye.

🕵️ When useful becomes dangerous: detectives of ecotoxicological research

As in detective stories, you will experience how things that seem useful at first glance can become dangerous to the environment and humans. Real examples of scientific research will allow you to understand why every detail is important.

💎 The beauty of minerals

During the educational program, you will see a unique collection of fossils, rocks, minerals, and artifacts donated to Lithuania by mineralogist A. Žukelis, as well as an exhibition dedicated to him. You will explore the shapes, colours, and shine of crystals and observe nature’s “drawings” in agates. With a UV flashlight, you will see the impressive glow of fluorescent minerals, and you will even be able to hold “stones from the sky” – meteorites – in your hands.

Festival guests will have an opportunity to learn about the daily lives of scientists, see research processes, try out interactive activities, and ask questions that interest them.

📍 The events will take place at Nature Research Centre in Vilnius.

Participation is free of charge, but advance registration on the festival website is required: www.mokslofestivalis.eu.

✨ We invite you to participate and discover the secrets of science together!
