Invitation to the Museum Day at Nature Research Centre

Museum Day, 18 May, 15:30

Stones from Earth and Heaven

Have you ever held a piece of the universe in your hands? Have you ever seen how an ordinary stone glows with the brightest colours in the dark? The Museum of Minerals is celebrating its 60th anniversary and invites you to an enchanting Museum Day adventure!

What’s in store for you?

On this special day, we’re opening the doors to the world beneath our feet and above our heads:

  • Visitors from space: discover a unique collection of meteorites. You’ll not only be able to see these stony and iron visitors from the vastness of space, but also hold them in your hands.
  • Earth’s treasures: from dazzling minerals and intricate rocks to mysterious fossils that tell stories dating back millions of years.
  • Museum’s history: discover how this unique collection came to be six decades ago and what secrets it holds today.

Become explorers (educational programme)

Feel like real scientists during our interactive educational sessions:

The microworld: through a magnifying glass, you’ll explore the mesmerizing patterns of nature found in agates.

The magic of properties: you’ll learn to identify minerals by their shape, incredible weight, or mysterious glow.

The miracle of light: using ultraviolet (UV) flashlights, you’ll witness an incredible transformation—fluorescent minerals glowing in the brightest colours in the dark.

Due to limited space, please register in advance by email: birute.poskiene@gamtc.lt.

We invite you to take this opportunity to get a closer look at the natural heritage preserved at Nature Research Centre.
