Lithuanian ecotoxicologists at international environmental conference in Greece

The 12th International Conference on Environmental Management, Engineering, Planning and Economics (CEMEPE 2025) and SECOTOX took place on the island of Mykonos, Greece, 25-29 May 2025. The conference is organised by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in collaboration with the Society for Ecotoxicology and Environment. The aim of the event is to promote the exchange of ideas and knowledge between different groups of the scientific community interested in current issues in ecotoxicology, environmental sciences, engineering and management.

As has become a tradition, this year’s event was attended by a large number of scientists from the Laboratory of Ecotoxicology. Seven oral and poster presentations were given at the conference:

  1. Danguolė Montvydienė. Assessing the impact of water from war-affected areas of Ukraine on test-organisms
  2. Živilė Jurgelėnė. Effects of upconverting nanoparticles on photosynthetic pigments and oxidative stress of the green alga Desmodesmus communis
  3. Natalija Matviienko. Ecological impacts of military activities and climate change on Ukraines aquatic ecosystems
  4. Brigita Gylytė. Acute toxicity in war-affected waters: evaluating risk to aquatic crustaceans
  5. Renata Butrimienė. Impact of rare earth metal-based nanoparticles on Daphnia magna: the correlation between nanotoxicity and physico-chemical properties
  6. Diana Miškelytė. Elevated temperature influence on pesticide terbuthylazine toxicity to duckweed Lemna minor
  7. Sergej Šemčuk. Application of nano-magnetite-chitosan adsorbent for removal of emerging contaminants in different environmental media

The research is financed from the funds of the projects of the NATO Science for Peace and Security Programme (RestoAqua, G6085), Research Council of Lithuania (RCL), Young Scientists Groups (NanoBioTox, S-MIP-24-92), Bilateral Collaboration (S-LU-24-13), and Postdoctoral Fellowship (P-PD23-187), (S-PD-24-179).
