Nature Research Centre scientists at the 6th Baltic Microbiologists Congress in Riga

On 1–3 October, University of Latvia, Riga, hosted the 6th Congress of Baltic Microbiologists (CBM 2025), which brought together more than a hundred participants from the Baltic States and other countries.

The international scientific conference CBM 2025 was organized with the aim of bringing together microbiologists and scientists from related fields from the Baltic region and beyond. The main goal of the event was to create opportunities for knowledge exchange, present the latest research results, and strengthen cooperation. By bringing together both experienced experts and young scientists, the congress aims at promoting the integration of fundamental and applied research, creating new partnerships between countries and disciplines, and drawing attention to the latest trends in microbiology.

During the conference, oral and poster presentation sessions were held in various sections, such as “Environmental Microbiology,” “Microbial Diversity and Preservation,” “Microbial Communities and Interactions,” etc. Scientists and doctoral students from NRC Laboratory of Plant Pathology (LPP) actively participated in the event. They presented two reports:

From toxic cyanobacterial blooms to bioactive antifungal agents (authors: Čepukoit D., Koreivienė J., Sokė I., Jaseliūnaitė S., Burokienė D.), presenting the results of implementation of HABpest project (RCL-funded project No. P-MIP-24-699LMT).

Diversity and ligninolytic activity of saprotrophic fungi associated with Ips typographusand Picea abies (authors: Sokė I., Jaseliūnaitė S., Čepukoit D., Burokienė D.), presenting LPP research results under the 2022–2026 NRC scientific research and experimental development programme TARŠA.

CBM 2025 once again confirmed its importance as a regional forum playing the role of a catalyst: the event revitalized the Baltic microbiology community, fostered new collaborations, and inspired participants to continue their scientific activities and share their experiences in future projects and meetings.
