NRC scientists presented research on Sarcocystis parasites at international conference in Italy

On 16–18September, Lod, Italy, hosted the 8th international scientific conference on Apicomplexa parasites found in farm animals “ApicoWplexa 2026,” which brought together researchers in parasitology and veterinary medicine from various countries around the world.

The Nature Research Centre was represented by researchers from the Laboratory of Parasitology Dr. Eglė Rudaitytė-Lukošienė and doctoral student Naglis Gudiškis. They made poster presentations on the prevalence and diversity of Sarcocystis parasites in farm animals.

On the first day of the conference, young researchers participated in a special hands-on workshop designed to strengthen their professional skills. The workshop covered the principles of preparing scientific publications, presented CRISPR/Cas genome editing technologies used in research on Apicomplexa parasites, and discussed transcriptomics methods that give a better understanding of parasite-host interactions. N. Gudiškis, a doctoral student at Nature Research Centre, participated in the workshop.

The doctoral student’s academic trip was funded by the Research Council of Lithuania under the project No. S-MIP-24-56.
