Research on biocontrol by Lithuanian scientists at the prestigious FEBS congress

The 49th Congress of the Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS) took place in Istanbul, Turkey, from 5 to 9 July, bringing together more than 2,200 participants from 67 different countries.

In plenary and parallel sessions, leading scientists gave presentations on the latest advances in the molecular life sciences – in medicine as well as cancer, protein and nucleic acid biochemistry, cell biology, biotechnology and many other fields. It also discussed the potential applications of artificial intelligence in life sciences, relationship between research and education, and practical aspects.

More than 1300 poster presentations were presented at the congress, including three by scientists from NRC Laboratory of Genetics:

  • Dr Elena Servienė “Microorganisms and plant essential oils driven biocontrol – implications for hive and human health”
  • Iglė Vepštaitė-Monstavičė “Killer activity and volatile organic compound profiles of yeasts from rowanberry and rosehip: potential for biocontrol applications”
  • Algirdas Valys “Antiviral efficacy of essential oils and their constituents”
