Searching for bee health in Tallinn: impressions from EurBee 10 conference

Vilija Lapinskaitė, PhD student at the Laboratory of Genetics, shares her impressions about Tallinn conference in the journal of the Beekeepers Association “Lietuvos bitininkas” (issue No. 4, pp. 29-30).

In her article published in the journal, the PhD student not only shares her impressions about EurBee 10 conference, which took place in Tallinn, Estonia, on 16-19 September 2024, but also discusses the work carried out on the diversity of micro-organisms on drone larvae and Varroa mites, in search of solutions to improve hive health by environmentally friendly means.

During the conference, Vilija Lapinskaitė and Algirdas Valys, PhD students at the Laboratory of Genetics, delivered a poster presentation “Microorganisms on Honey Bee Drone Larvae and Varroa Mites – Implications for Hive Health and Food Safety”. The poster presented the results of the initial microbiota analyses of bee drone larvae and Varroa mites. The results of studies on the susceptibility of identified micro-organisms to the effects of essential oils were presented.
