Silver Fir in the Šumava Mountains: Insights from 4000 Years without Major Disturbances

Article from 2024 year investigations carried out by postdoc student of Laboratory of Quaternary Research  now has been re-published as a popular science article in the magazine of Šumava, the Czech National Park where the research was conducted. In the article, we discuss how a 4000-year-long period of absence of large disturbances facilitated the expansion of silver fir (Abies alba) at 1250 meters elevation. Currently, silver fir is extremely rare in the Šumava and our study results showcase under what conditions it might expand again in the region in the future. Hopefully, this popular article in Czech language will reach even more people who could be interested in this phenomenon.
