Success story of interdisciplinary collaboration

Researchers from the Laboratory of Genetics of the Nature Research Centre, together with researchers from the Institute of Biosciences at Vilnius University’s Life Sciences Center, have published a paper in Scientific Reports, one of the most highly cited journals in the Nature Portfolio group.

Researchers from the Laboratory of Genetics Ramunė Stanevičienė and Elena Servienė investigated the efficacy of nanoparticles functionalized with the bioactive peptide nisin against model microorganisms (Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis), as well as potential pathogens responsible for skin infections (Staphylococcus aureus), gastrointestinal infections (Salmonella Typhimurium), respiratory tract infections (Streptococcus pyogenes), and other infections.

The experimental data presented in the article highlight the potential of virus-like particles that are safe for humans as carriers of bioactive compounds and their possible applications in medicine.

The research was funded by the Research Council of Lithuania (project No. S-MIP-23-28).
