Postdoctoral Researchers Addressing Today’s Challenges for Tomorrow

Postdoctoral researchers working at our institution represent a new generation of scientists who boldly raise important questions and seek innovative solutions. We take pride in their professionalism, dedication, and contribution to high-level research, carried out in close collaboration with highly competent and experienced academic supervisors from the Centre, who ensure the focus, quality, and excellence of the research. These efforts strengthen both the national and international research landscape.

The projects is funded by the Research Council of Lithuania and implemented in 2024–2026.

Lithuanian institutions enhancing capabilities in working with GBIF data

In 2026, researchers from State Scientific Research Institute Nature Research Centre, the Institute of Biosciences of Vilnius University Life Sciences Centre, and Kaunas Tadas Ivanauskas Zoological Museum, together with colleagues from the Swedish Museum of Natural History and the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF Sweden), are implementing the project “Biodiversity Data Capacity Building in Lithuania” (CESP2025-002).

The Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) is an international network and open data infrastructure funded by governments around the world. It provides free access to biodiversity data published by thousands of institutions through a shared platform, thereby supporting science, policy, and nature conservation.

The first training session took place on 16–20 March at Nature Research Centre in Vilnius. It was attended by scientists from various fields as well as representatives from the State Service for Protected Areas.

More information about the project is available at: https://www.gbif.org/project/CESP2025-002/biodiversity-data-capacity-building-in-lithuania

Invitation to the lecture “When winter came to Lithuania: final results from the CosmoLith postdoctoral project”

The postdoctoral project “Dating the Formation of the Continental Ice Sheet in Lithuania Using Cosmogenic Nuclide Methods (CosmoLith)” has just been completed. It was carried out under the “New Generation Lithuania” instrument (No. 10-036-T-0008), funded under the European Union’s NextGenerationEU economic recovery and resilience facility. The project yielded significant new findings regarding the age and genesis of problematic Quaternary deposits, which will undoubtedly have a major impact on the geochronology and stratigraphy of the Quaternary in Lithuania. We invite you to listen to the project’s final lecture “When winter came to Lithuania: final results from the CosmoLith postdoctoral project” to be delivered by postdoctoral fellow Dr. Michal Šujan.

Time: 19 March 2026, 14:00 PM
