Research interests
Studies of parasites belonging to the genus Sarcocystis in intermediate and definitive hosts using morphological and molecular methods. DNA isolation from artificially digested homogenate and sarcocysts, DNA amplification (direct PCR, nested PCR, real-time PCR), visualization, purification, and preparation for sequencing of amplified products, analysis of the resulting DNA sequences, and interpretation of results.
Dissertation annotation
The aim of the doctoral studies is to determine the species diversity of Sarcocystis parasites in meat from livestock.
Planned dissertation objectives:
- To investigate the diversity of Sarcocystis in raw meat from livestock.
- To investigate the diversity of sarcocysts in non-thermally processed meat products.
- To optimise DNA extraction from stained microscopy samples.
- To assess the viability of detected sarcocysts.
