Research interests

Identification of microscopic fungi using microscopic, biochemical, and molecular analyses; DNA extraction; application of PCR methods; sequencing; determination of phylogenetic relationships; and metagenomic studies.

Aim of the dissertation

The aim of this doctoral dissertation is to investigate the diversity, distribution, biological characteristics, and biodestructive properties of microscopic fungi in the soils located within the potential impact zone of the Astravyets Nuclear Power Plant in Lithuania.

Objectives:

  1. To isolate microscopic fungi from soil samples collected in the study area using classical microbiological methods;
  2. To determine the agrochemical composition of soils at the investigated sites;
  3. To identify microscopic fungi by phenotypic and molecular methods, and to assess their abundance and distribution;
  4. To evaluate the biochemical and enzymatic characteristics of the isolated microscopic fungi, as well as their potential for biodegradation;
  5. To apply metagenomic analysis methods for assessing the community structure and diversity of microscopic fungi.
