Botanica Lithuanica, Supplementum 6

2004 m.

Since the very beginning nomenclature of Lithuanian generic plant names was created applying the principle that each genus should bear unique name and the name should consist of one word. However, about three dozens of plant genera have two or more generic names consistently used both in scientific and common language. Majority of plants with several generic names are economically important, and the usage of such names has deep traditions. Usage of certain Lithuanian generic names for naming of species were analysed, and solutions for their standardisation were proposed. Widely used traditional generic names should be applied as names of infrageneric taxa (subgenera, sections, subsections; functionally they are equal to the generic name), whereas Lithuanian name of the genus should be selected taking into account generic name used for its type species. It would be purposeful to create a code of Lithuanian botanical nomenclature that should include general principles and rules of plant naming as well as examples and exceptions.

The distribution and habitat differentiation of Allium ursinum and other wild-growing Allium species in Lithuania based on herbarium material, questioning of foresters, and personal observation are reported. The largest amount of data was collected about A. ur-sinum and A. oleraceum habitats; other species are rare or very rare. Habitat differentiation in Lithuania is compared with the data from other parts of Allium distribution area.

In Lithuania the genus Dryopteris is represented by 5 species. A revision of the Lithuanian herbarium collection of this genus was made. The paper presents data about geographical and ecological distribution and a key for identification of different Dryopteris species in Lithuania. The synonymy of Dryopteris species in Lithuanian botanical literature is given.

Data about morphology and productivity of hybrids of Salix integra × S. kochiana introduced in Lithuania in 1989 are presented. Height of bushes, number and mass of sprouts per bush, diameter of sprouts, approximate length and yield of twigs, and mass of sprouts of eight hybrids cultivated for five years in short turnover plantation were estimated. It was detected that the most productive hybrids with high quality of raw material were hybrids No. 27 (yield of sprouts 558.6 thousand unit/ha), No. 8 (562.4 thousand unit/ha), and No. 27 (490.2 thousand unit/ha). Approximate mass of sprouts per bush of a hybrid No. 27 during five years was 5.25 kg.

In 2000, at the Experimental Scientific Station of the Institute of Botany in peat soil of transitional type 11 cultivars of large cranberry (Oxycoccus macrocarpus (Aiton) Pursh) were planted; in 2001 they were mulched with vermicompost. The impact of this fertiliser depended upon peculiarities of a cultivar. Some cultivars positively reacted to the application of vermicompost and developed longer and slightly thicker fruit branches and annual vegetative shoots with considerably higher number of leaves. Yet other cultivars of Oxycoccus macrocarpus negatively reacted to the impact of ver-micompost, i.e., developed shorter fruit branches and annual vegetative shoots.

Ectomycorrhizal morphotypes from deciduous forests of Kėdainiai district were investigated. Distinct morphological and anatomical features of sixty morphotypes retrieved from seven study plots situated in central Lithuania were distinguished. Ectomycorrhi-zae formed by fungi of the Lactarius genus was the most frequent. Morphotypes that according to their distinctive the features were similar to ectomycorrhizae formed by fungi of the genera Russula, Tomentella, Inocybe, Tuber were also found. About 20 % ofthe determined morphotypes were ascribed to the group of unidentified.

Eighteen species of coprophilous ascomycetes new for Lithuania are briefly described and illustrated: 16 species of the Sporormiella and 2 of the Preussia genera of the order Dothidiales. The key to Lithuanian species of the two genera is presented.

Discusion on the peculiarities of Teesdalia nudicaulis distribution in Lithuania is presented. The analysis of Teesdalia nudicaulis localities revealed that its distribution in West Lithuania is consistent with its overall ecology and distribution pattern.
