Short outline of the history of Lithuanian terminology of agronomy is presented in this paper. During the Soviet era a lot of terms were borrowed from the Russian language, however, they were not always creatively adapted. Nowadays, with the introduction of agricultural technologies, new machinery, fertilisers, and plant protection products the new terminology usually comes from the West. Hasty translation of Western terminology results in inaccuracies in the sense of logic as well as in meaning of terms. These problems should be solved by careful comparison of lexical equivalents in various languages and in close co-operation with the experts of the Lithuanian language.

Lithuanian terminology of beekeeping is fairly little studied. Inconsiderable part of apiculture terminology is included in The Encyclopedia of Agriculture but no separate Lithuanian dictionary of this field is prepared. A book on bees by Simonas Daukantas (1793–1864), native from Skuodas rustic estate, exists for a little more than 150 years. Over 200 terms related to apiculture are analyzed in the article according to their meaning, their alteration; words not existing in the present speech as well as terms that are likely created by the author himself are discussed.

The genus Hemerocallis L. contains 28 species originating from China, Japan, Korea. In Field Floriculture Research Station 7 species (H. aurantiaca, H. citrina, H. dumortierii, H. fulva, H. lilio-asphodelus, H. middendorffii, H. thunbergii) are cultivated. Investigations were carried out in 1996–1999. Morphological characteristics of the species, data on their phenological development, biometric parameters, analyses of rooting system, and data on vegetative reproductive capacities according to the total coefficient of reproduction are presented.

In 1992–2001 in the Field Floriculture Research Station the investigations of introductional capacities and vegetative regeneration possibilities of daylilies (Hemerocallis) (7 species and 115 varieties) were carried out. In this paper the results of phenologic investigations, the observations of cultivars’ resistance to negative meteorological factors and diseases are discussed more exhaustively. The results of introduction of the investigated taxa are also presented.
