Processing of Agricultural Waste into Higher-Value Products

The project is implemented in accordance with the rules for the implementation of the intervention measure “European Innovation Partnership for Agricultural Productivity and Sustainability” under the Strategic Plan for Agriculture and Rural Development of Lithuania for 2023–2027.

Project Title: “Processing of Agricultural Waste into Higher-Value Products”

Applicant: Chamber of Agriculture of the Republic of Lithuania

Partners: Nature Research Centre (a state research institute) and agricultural entities

Project No.: 22BV-KK-26-1-00597-PR001

Project Objective: To implement circular economy principles on farms by applying a technology for processing biodegradable agricultural waste (BAW)—based on an anaerobic composting process and the use of microbiological preparations—with the aim of producing an organic fertilizer product with high added value.

Project Tasks:

  1. To implement and refine innovative technologies for the management and processing of biodegradable waste on farms, utilizing composting and anaerobic fermentation techniques;
  2. To select the primary method for preparing raw materials for processing, and to determine the composition of microbiological preparations, based on the chemical composition of the raw materials. 3. Utilize innovative compositions of microbiological preparations during the processing stage to improve quality indicators;
  3. Investigate the agrochemical, physical, and microbiological properties of a fertilizer product enriched with microbial compositions, tailored for farms with different specializations;
  4. Develop recommendations for the processing of biodegradable agricultural waste (BAW) and the application of innovative technologies for organic fertilizer products;
  5. Promote the dissemination of scientific knowledge, technologies, and innovative practices within Lithuanian agriculture by demonstrating the benefits of scientifically grounded technologies in production—specifically in halting soil degradation and increasing organic carbon content in the soil.

Total project budget – EUR 203,241.00;
