Biodiversity of trematodes in freshwater snails as ecological indicators of ecosystem health

The detection of trematode species in a particular ecosystem is an indicator of the existence of specific complexes of vertebrate and invertebrate hosts connected in food chains. Examination of mollusks as intermediate hosts, is the keystone for the elucidation of the trematode fauna in regions of interest. The project aims to use molecular, karyological, and morphological analyses to obtain reliable markers for the identification of larval forms developing in gastropods to better understand the general biodiversity of selected freshwater ecosystems that differ in the level of anthropogenic pressure.
