The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between the colour of Achillea millefolium L. inflorescences and other morphological characters of the plant. Morphometric evaluation of 16 characters of the plant was carried out. All tested plants were grouped into eight groups according to colour of linguiform flowers. Morphological character data was subjected to multivariate statistical analysis. Results of ANOVA showed that the colour groups differed significantly (p<0.05) by the height of the plants and the size of linguiform flowers. Hierarchical cluster analysis indicated that plants with violet and white and rosy linguiform flowers were different from other groups according to the examined characters. The analysis of morphological characters of the A. millefolium plant allowed us to presume infraspecific differences within this species in Lithuania.

Primary information on the formation principles, composition, and the condition of a new rhododendron collection, which is being created in Lithuania, is presented in this article. Accumulation of Rhododendron L. genus plants for the collection was started in 2002 at the Šiauliai University Botanical Garden. As part of the research, the collection was evaluated according to five main criteria: (1) general condition; (2) resistance to low temperatures; (3) flowering intensity; (4) phytopathological condition; and (5) suitability for cultivation in green plantations. Currently in the Šiauliai University Botanical Garden, plants of 74 rhododendron species, 8 subspecies, 9 varieties, and 94 cultivars are being grown.

A checklist of Chlorococcales algae recorded in different water bodies of Lithuania has been com-piled. It includes algae from 447 different water bodies: 205 lakes, 11 karst lakes, 5 water reservoirs, 37 ponds, 182 rivers and streams, and 7 springs. Out of 283 coccoid green algae species and intra-specific taxa found in the country, more than half (54 %) belong to Scenedesmaceae and Chlo-rellaceae, while the rest of the species belong to another eleven families. This paper includes the list of coccal green algae of 11 Chlorococcales families. Oocystaceae is the richest in number of genera (9) and species (35). Twenty-one species belong to Hydrodictyaceae; 18 of them belong to the ge-nus Pediastrum.

This paper deals with three species of hypogeous fungi recorded for the first time in Lithuania: En-dogone lactiflua, Tuber puberulum, and Hymenogaster olivaceus. Descriptions, comments, and illustrations of these species are provided.

Initial analysis is based on spontaneous fermentations isolated from apples, grapes, and various berries gathered in Lithuania and some regions of Russia in 2004. In order to identify killer systems K1, K2, and K28, 1127 yeast clones were analysed using killer activity and immunity tests in com-pliance with the standards of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae . Fifty-six clones secreting killer factors over a wide range of pHs and temperatures were found. Moreover, among them twenty yeast strains, which could not be ascribed to any S. cerevisiae killer system known so far, were found. These clones, referred to as KN, KN-1, KN-2, and KNX, could be potentially new killer strains. At the moment detailed microbiological, genetic, and biochemical studies are being undertaken.

The data referring to the occurrence of two sterile sorediate lichens Haematomma ochroleucum and Lecanora thysanophora in Lithuania was revised. It appears that all Lithuanian specimens identified previously as Haematomma ochroleucum are indeed Lecanora thysanophora. Therefore, the former species should be excluded from the list of lichens and lichenicolous fungi of Lithuania.
